The Essence of Authentic Japanese Umeshu

Choya Original Umeshu Plum Wine is a distinguished fruit liqueur crafted from 100% Japanese Nanko-ume plums. Traditional methods steep fine plums in alcohol and sugar, allowing natural flavors and aromas to slowly infuse. This meticulous process ensures a pure, authentic taste, free from artificial additives, colorings, or flavorings, embodying centuries of Japanese winemaking heritage.

A Harmonious Balance of Sweet and Tart

This exquisite plum wine offers a delightful flavor profile, characterized by its natural sweetness, perfectly balanced with refreshing tartness. The aroma is distinctly fruity, with notes of ripe plums. On the palate, it delivers a smooth, mellow taste, culminating in a clean, pleasant finish. Its well-rounded character makes it approachable yet sophisticated for diverse palates.

How to Enjoy

Choya Original Umeshu Plum Wine is remarkably versatile. Serve it chilled straight, over ice for refreshment, or mixed with sparkling water for a lighter drink. It pairs wonderfully with a range of foods, from light appetizers and seafood to desserts. Use it as a sophisticated base for cocktails, adding a unique fruity dimension to your creations.

Frequently asked questions

Choya Original Umeshu is best served slightly chilled, typically between 8°C and 10°C, to balance the sweetness and acidity. It can also be enjoyed warm (Oyuwari) during cold weather.

To reduce sweetness or strength, mix the Umeshu with soda water or still water (Mizuwari) at a 1:1 ratio. For a more tart profile, add a splash of lemon juice or use unsweetened green tea as a mixer.

Umeshu is excellent as a marinade for poultry or pork to tenderize and impart a fruity, acidic note. It also functions well as a finishing glaze for grilled fish or as a base for sweet sauces used in desserts.

Choya Original offers a brighter, fruitier flavor suitable for mixing and casual sipping. Koshu Umeshu, being aged, typically has deeper, richer, and more complex sherry-like notes, making it better suited for sipping neat after a meal.

Combine three parts Choya Original Umeshu with one part chilled plain soda water in a glass filled with ice. Stir gently once to preserve carbonation and ensure the plum aroma remains prominent rather than being masked by excessive dilution.
