Silky Smooth and Delicate Soft Tofu

Satonoyuki Soft Silken Tofu is a high-quality, authentic Japanese tofu known for its exceptionally smooth and tender texture. Produced using traditional methods, this soft tofu offers a delicate, almost custard-like mouthfeel, distinguishing it from firm or extra-firm varieties. Its clean and mild soybean flavour makes it an excellent base for a wide variety of dishes, complementing both subtle and robust seasonings.

A Versatile Culinary Ingredient

This soft tofu is a highly adaptable ingredient, suitable for a broad range of cooking styles. Its tender nature makes it perfect for incorporating into soups (such as Miso Soup), creamy sauces, or purees. It readily absorbs flavours while adding a substantial richness and silky consistency to the dish. It can be used in both savoury and sweet applications, adding a neutral yet rich element to any meal.

How to Enjoy

This soft tofu is delicious served chilled as Hiyayakko (chilled tofu), simply topped with a dash of soy sauce, grated ginger, and chopped scallions. For warm dishes, gently dice it and add it to hot Miso Soup or clear broth just before serving. It can also be smoothly blended into shakes or dips to add a creamy texture without overpowering other flavours. Handle with care due to its delicate softness.

Frequently asked questions
How should I drain Satonoyuki Shiki Tofu Soft before use, and is it necessary for all dishes?

Gently drain excess water from the package. For dishes where a firmer texture is desired, lightly press the tofu between paper towels for 15-30 minutes. For silken dishes like miso soup or smoothies, draining lightly is sufficient.

Satonoyuki Shiki Tofu Soft is very delicate and generally not suitable for pan-frying or deep-frying as it may crumble easily. It excels in applications like chilled tofu (hiyayakko), hot pot (nabemono), delicate soups, or blended into creamy sauces.

For a classic "hiyayakko" (chilled tofu), simple toppings like grated ginger, chopped green onions, a drizzle of soy sauce, and a touch of katsuobushi (bonito flakes) are excellent. A dash of ponzu sauce or a sprinkle of shichimi togarashi also complements its mild flavor.

Satonoyuki Shiki Tofu Soft has a very smooth, delicate, and custard-like consistency, making it ideal for dishes where a silky mouthfeel is desired. Firm or extra-firm tofu has a much denser, chewier texture that holds its shape well, making it suitable for grilling, stir-frying, or baking.

For nabemono, Satonoyuki Shiki Tofu Soft offers a supremely tender and melt-in-your-mouth experience that absorbs the broth flavors beautifully. A medium-firm tofu would maintain more of its structural integrity and offer a slightly firmer bite, which some prefer. The choice depends on the desired texture contrast in the hot pot.
